Grouplove @ Barfly, 28/06/2011

Described by the Guardian as ”Like Dinosaur Jnr meeting The Moldy Peaches at a secret cove at sundown”, Grouplove have been generating a fair few column inches of late. Following the release of their single Colours at the beginning of the year, this quintet has gradually being up-beating its way into the musical mainstream.

Their debut album ‘Never Trust a Happy Song,’ will be released in September, but if you can’t wait until then, you should check out the band’s own blog grouplivin over here for tasty little updates.

The Doors of Perception @ Proud, 23/06/2011

On 3rd July it will be 40 years since Jim Morrison died in a Paris bathtub at the age of 27. To honour the life of this legend and the band that he fronted, Proud Camden will be presenting The Doors of Perception, a photographic portrait of The Doors by Bobby Klein, Guy Webster and Frank Lisciandro.

Everyone has the band that they wish they had seen live. For some it was The Libertines, for others – the Spice Girls, Take That, The Stone Roses, Pulp, Blur…. the list is endless. The thing about all those bands is that, as unlikely as it first seems, the reunion tours are inevitable. You can be confident that the Wembley dollars will ensure that even the most acrimonious of band breakups can be reconciled.

It’s been forty years since any dreams of ever seeing the The Doors live were well and truly dashed. Maybe that’s what makes us want it all the more.

Some London residents were fortunate enough to get to see Jim Morrison at The Roundhouse during the band’s four night residency here in 1964. Lucky buggers.

Kaiser Chiefs at the Electric Ballroom

Who knew that the Kaiser Chiefs were still doing the rounds? We certainly didn’t. But it turns out they’re continuing to beaver away in their charming Northern fashion, and have recently created a bit of a furore among the ‘Chief fan base by releasing a pick and mix style album online, allowing you to create your own Kaiser Chiefs record from a choice of over twenty new songs. They’ll be releasing an official physical version of the fourth album ‘The Future is Medievil’ at the end of the month.

On Thursday the band were in Camden with a show at the Electric Ballroom – check out our pics over here.
